How To Treat Blood Clot And Skin Discolouration On Lips Caused Due To Injury?

My daughter tripped and busted her lip a couple months ago causing a blood clot that was almost black, then It turned more red and went down a little then it got pale and I took her to the doctor and they said it wasn't anything to worry about unless it started bleeding and didn't stop but it looks very ugly and still hasn't gone away, once in a while it'll be red again and then go back down a little and turn pale. Is there anything I can do to make it go away? The doctor had said it probably never will bit I'd like a second opinion since its already been months to a year.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . The discoloration you mention is due to post inflammatory hyper pigmentation ,so don't panic.

This usually occur after healing process . The melanin (responsible for dark pigmentation ) producing cells that is melanocytes are trigger to produce excess pigment which cause darkening.

I would suggest you to :-

- Wash face twice daily with johnson & johnson baby soap and scrub it one a week.

- Apply aloe vera gel at night (VERY EFFECTIVE FOR HYPER PIGMENTATION).

- Apply kokic aciid cream twice daily for one month . It is very effective and natural extract of mushroom , so safe .

- Apply lip balm with SPF 15 while going outside .

If condition doesn't start getting normal after one month then consult dermatologist . Doctor may prescribe hydroquinone cream or retenoid creams (like vitanin A)

Doctor may also recommend you for procedure like laser technique specially fractional laser technique or dermabrassion .

hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
