How To Treat Anxiety?

21 year old male with no history of panic attacks, has all of sudden developed anxiety with severe and sudden symptoms. Triggered by stress, noise, light contrast and closeness. Can this be treated and now that it has developed, will it be with him for life? Thank you.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Anxiety is interstate of turmoil which occurs due to some known or unknown anticipated danger. Emotional, autonomic and behavioural symptoms are seen in anxiety. With proper medicines the symptoms decrease and if proper relaxation exercises are done then individuals can function normal in their life.

Few medical causes like thyroid abnormalities, Vitamin B12 deficiency, iron deficiency anaemia etc are triggers of anxiety. So these causes should be ruled out in any patient of anxiety. Medicines like SSRIs or SNRIs are commonly used in anxiety. Apart from medicines behaviour therapy also have excellent roles in anxiety. So if possible consider consulting a psychiatrist for his symptoms.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
