How To Treat An Abscess In The Liver Despite On Linezolid And Levofloxacin?
Hi! my father age 74 had a whipple procedure on 1/27/16. Thank God the tumor was benign. But the recovery has been so slow... about five weeks later he developed an abcess in the liver. He had a line put in to drain the infection. it was in for about 2 weeks. He was and still is on linezolid and levofloxacin. He is so weak and has no appetite...is there any tips you can give me ??? we are so frustrated and confused....
This is common after such extensive surgeries. most small liver abscess can be treated with antibiotic therapy but in case of refractory signs this may require percutaneous drainage or even surgical procedure to evacuate an abscess. I suggest to consult radiologist for drainage under CT scan and if this is unsuccessful then surgery is required.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
