How To Treat A Fluid Leak From Incision Post ACL Reconstruction Surgery?

Had ACL reconstruction surgery. Had stitches removed swelling came on and terrible pain. Turned out it got a strep infection in the joint. Had it cleaned out twice. Had pic line for 3 weeks to treat infection. Then pills for another 2 weeks. Last surgery for cleaning out was left open to heal with packing etc. All was going well then large incision would leak fluid. Then stop for a week then start again. Yesterday i bent down to sit in chair and a bunch of prissy stuff came out then alot of blood squirted out......note it just leaks clear fluod every time I get up to move. Dr is baffled. There is more pain now. Any help would be appreciated.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

I would recommend sending the fluid to the the laboratory for an analysis to find the source of the problem, and treat it at its route. Once we know what is causing the accumulation of the fluid, we should be able to approach it better. In the meantime, please request your doctor to initiate antibiotic coverage and possibly even diuretics to help reduce the fluid accumulation.

Best wishes.
