How To Treat Nephrotic Syndrome?

My son is 4 yrs old. He was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome in Dec 2010. He just started pre-school a month ago. Since then he has been sick often. The regular cold symptoms cough, runny nose, itchy throat, mucus buildup in nose and chest. Is this common for children with this disease? Is there anything that can stop him from getting sick so often. He has been sick 2 times this month and about 2 times last month? he is sick now is there any medicines or remedies or over the counter medicines that can help him and not be damaging to his body?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Thanks for the query.
I can understand your concern.

If i would be the treating physician, i would like to suggest following treatment for my patient
Keep blood pressure at optimum, to delay kidney damage.
You may take corticosteroids and other drugs that suppresses immune system.
Treat high cholestero, lA low-salt diet, Low-protein diets, vitamin D supplements if nephrotic syndrome is long-term and not responding to treatment.
The increased susceptibility of patients to infections like you have mentioned might be due to leakage of immunoglobulins from the blood, the loss of proteins in general and the presence of oedematous fluid (which acts as a breeding ground for infections).

Keeping regular follow up with your doctor to keep all the parameters (B.P., CHOLESTEROL) at optimum level is the ultimate solution to your problem.

Hope i helped you.
