Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. A lot of patients with ADHD develop depressive disorder with passage of time. You have two children with ADHD and then grandchildren also have ADHD with depressive symptoms. This means that there is strong genetic load in family. In most cases the symptoms respond to medicines but if they fail to respond then augmentation therapy is given. Antipsychotics can be given to augment the drugs. Risperidone has been found to be useful in such cases. In more resistant cases ECT can help. ECT can help to improve depression and will result in improvement. Please consult your doctor for details of therapy.

Thanks, Hope this helps you.
Take care
