How To Stop Excessive Saliva During A Sore Throat?

hey... I have been dealing with sore throat since last Thursday and it is not getting any better. Its hard to swallow. I do not have a fever or headache and I have not been coughing it just came out of nowhere after I had pink eye. Im also having excessive saliva so im spitting about 40 times in an hour. Could I possibly have strep throat?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms sore throat following pink eye or conjunctivitis can occur due to viral conjunctivitis which is a highly contagious infection and can lead to viral throat infection..

As far as excessive salivation is concerned there can be two reasons for experiencing excessive salivation :
1.Increase in salivation in real.
2.Decrease in swallowing..

In your case it seems due to reduced swallowing due to pain and soreness in throat as well as some increase in salivation can also be there due to throat irritation following infection..

Nothing to worry, start doing warm saline gargles.
Take a short course of antibiotics as many a times there is secondary bacterial infection along with viral.
Take Azithromycin 500 mg once daily for 5 days..
Take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen for relief from pain and inflammation..
Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily..
Avoid spicy and hard food.
Do steam inhalations and use a cool mist humidifier in your room..
Take sufficient rest..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
