How To Stop Alcohol Addiction?

hi my dad has been drinking from past 30years..he is 54 now..he has not been able to quit drinking and its affecting his health a lot..usualy when he quits for a day or so he gets very ill..he had actually quit drinking for two years a few years back..he refuses to go to hhospital for check up which is making it worse..its very difficult for me to persuade him to go to any doctor..i need your advice on this.please..

Cannot say for certain without an actual meeting and....
First is getting over acute withdrawal that could really require hospitalization.
Second, is establishing being off alcohol. Hard. 12 step program has best track record (approaching 50/50) WITH FAMILY (more like 2/3). Some new medications (capral, natrexone) have benefit (modest 20-30% improvements on some measures). Looking into associated depression ... there is going to be, and will need treatment.

actually the first is getting motivation, health and family are good motivators.
