I am a 44 year old female that has had since birth 22 ear surgerys and related procedures, I currently have doaner eardrums in both ears and in right ear had total reconstructive surgery due to the years of decay in the bones. Aprox 1 year ago my ear specialist did an mri on my right ear due to a cyst on the mastroid bone. He wanted to watch it and make sure it didnt get bigger. Up until now it has stayed the same but in the last 4 months or so it has gotten larger and now its causing me a fair amount of pain. would this require surgery to remove it and with my history could it be a major surgery?
in my opinion a cyst becoming larger and causing pain indicates hemorrhage in it. yes, it should be removed in Toto, as it increases chances of malignancy later on. MRI would indicate it's size and involvement of surrounding structure. if it's not involving deeper tissue,, I.e. brain, I dnt think it will be a major surgery. but given the history of multiple surgery in past, proper MRI assessment is necessary before undergoing surgery.
