How To Relieve The Pressure On Cerclage During Pregnancy?

hi i have a question. i am 26 weeks and 2 days pregnant with my second child. i had a cerclage put in at 16 weeks because i delivered preterm my last pregnancy. he was 6 weeks ealry and i was on bed rest in the hospital 5 weeks before he was born. but this time my doctor put me on bed rest at home because the baby is sitting low and hurts and i feel like it may be putting too much pressure on the cerclage. this past week i wanted to see my doctor because im hurting a little more, but she wasnt free to see me. this past week i have been getting bad back pains it feels like period cramps. then my stomache feels like im doing crunches. this time tonight my back hurt so bad it made me sweat. it went away after 30 min but it came on rapidly i was sitting on the couch it was sudden. what should i do. please help i dont want to be admited to the hospital which my doctor would do if i call her but what do you think i should do. should i go to the triage?

Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

The fact that you have a cerclage in place will make preterm labor have different symptoms in you than in someone without a cerclage. You can tear your cervix if you have contractions and you physically cannot dilate, or rarely you can even rupture your uterus, which can be life threatening for you and the baby.

Becaue of the risk of this serious complication I have to advise you to go to labor and delivery. I know you do not want to be admitted to the hospital but at 26 weeks it would be a very bad time to deliver at 26 weeks and they can give you medications to stop the contractions and help prevent complications if the baby is born early.

I am concerned about your abdominal pain and the rare complication of uterine rupture or abruption. Please go to the hospital for evaluation to help prevent serious risks to your and the baby's health.

I hope i was able to answer your question today and that my advice was helpful.

Best wishes for the rest of the pregnancy, Dr. Brown
