Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i have a bad case of heartburn and its making very tired and antacid and coke took care of it in my chest now my stomach is really upset and im tired i did see the nurse today and my blood pressure was 117/68 but im still tired dissy and feel like heartburn is still there
Thank you for the query. I would want to know your age and gender. Heartburn occurs due to regurgitation of acid from stomach to the esophagus (food-pipe). It causes a discomfort in the chest region (retrosternal) and upper abdomen (epigastric area), cough and difficulty in swallowing. Certain medications help in heartburn like proton pump inhibitors-PPI (omeprazole, pantoprazole, rabeprazole), anti histaminic drugs (ranitidine, famotidine) and antacids. These help in reducing the acid production (PPI) and neutralizing the acid already formed (antacids). Carbonated beverages and alcohol are to be avoided. It is also suggested that you do not immediately lie down after eating meals. If you are overweight, weight reduction is advised.
I would recommend you to go for an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (if not already done) to rule out gastro-esophageal reflux disorder (GERD). If your symptoms are not relieved with medications, a 12 lead ECG is recommended to rule out any associated cardiac ailment (which can present with similar symptoms). Please consult your treating physician for a thorough physical check up and plan of management. Hope this helps you out.
