Hi
It is a common misconception that underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) is associated with significant weight gain. Hypothyroidism is generally associated with mild weight gain in tune of just 1-2 kg and after correction of the thyroid problem you are expected to lost just 1-2 kg.

If you are experiencing weight gain I would advice you to consult a good nutritionist for low calorie diet. You must continue you regular exercise program. Nowadays there are mainly free and paid googe/iPhone apps which help in control of weight. Please donot blame you weight gain to the thyroid.

Since you are already on thyroid medications, I would advise you to recheck you Free T4 and TSH after 6 weeks and revert back.

Hope this was helpful and informative
