How To Overcome Tonsillitis?

I have had tonsillitis for about a week now, this is like the 5th time I've had it this year. I have been given antibiotics for it off my GP and it had started to go but this morning it felt really painful again and felt like I had something stuck in the back of my throat and it is making me cough and gag a lot and when I looked there is a chunk of flesh hanging off my right tonsil, what do I do? As it is extremely annoying/discomforting and quite painful.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you had tonsillitis which is infection and inflammation in tonsils which can occur due to bacterial or Viral Infection. It could be due to acid irritation and post nasal drip as well. You need tonsillectomy done as you have chronic enlarged tonsils that are not resolving or it seems if there is very frequent infection. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order test like blood test , vital culture test and throat swab test. Start treatment after proper diagnosis. As tonsillitis occurring 3 to 4 times a year is not an abnormal finding so if you have any frequent issues you can get them removes otherwise taking medication and doing warm saline gargles and steam inhalations will relieve.
