How To Make A Toddler Pass Stools In His Pot?

I have a 31/2 year old and he is completely potty trained, but when it comes to bowel movements he will not do it on the stool. He will hold it for days and then go hide and go in his pants. He knows that he is to go in the pot but just will not do it. What can be done to handle this?

Hi,
Thank you for asking question on health care magic.
Some children are afraid of passing stools and hence withhold it which leads to hard stools.
A laxative like lactulose will relieve constipation.
Explain him the importance of using potty and make him use potty daily by telling soothing words and demonstrating him other children using potty without fear.
It is not easy, patience and perseverence are the key stones of the therapy.
If these methods are not successful, sometimes you may need the advice of a psychiatrist.
Hope this answer will serve your purpose
Please feel free to ask any more queries if required
Take care
