How To Make A Child Chew The Food?

i have a 16 month old daughter that wont chew food, she dont understand that she has to CHEW her food. she swallows everything even if its something too big for her to swallow she will try to and end up gaging... what can i do to get her to understand and start chewing?

Hi, thanks for asking.
I can understand your concerns.
I would suggest you do the following things.
1. Put the food on the side of her mouth, not over the tongue and move her lower jaw in the movement of chewing.
2. imitate the chewing movements and let the child see you and imitate you
3. Put the child's hand on your jaw and let her feel the chew movements
4. put the child's hand on her jaw and let her feel the movement
If this does not work then please see an occupational therapist. I hope I have helped you
