Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am taking 40 mgs of lisinopril. Started this dosage one month ago. Previously I had been on 20 mgs. for a bout a year and 10 mgs for about 6 months before that. the 40 mgs was prescribed after a pressure reading of 150/100. I had been away from the Dr. for a few months and had not really kept up with the dailly readings. The pressure is now averaging about 125/85-90, and some days maybe 115/80. I take no other meds although my blood panel recently returned cholesterol at 61 and 175. That 175 ( bad C) is up from 146 a year ago. Must get back to the cherrios because I can not swallow oatmeal. Trying to avoid cholesterol meds. I am female, 61 years old. What do you think?

Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query. You Blood pressure readings looks in a well controlled state now.You can continue lisinopril with regular follow up and Blood pressure readings. If your LDL is remaining high after life style modifications then i recommend to start statin group of drugs in low dosage.Studies have shown that it increases life span and benefits are more than side effects. When you take low dosage there is very less chances of side effects also.I usually recommend statins like atorvastatin or rosuvastatin.Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further query.
