My daughter is 1month and two days old.she had been fed with nan pro and breastfed as well since I m producing less milk I.e only 30 ml after 1hr of pumping. How to increase the milk supply and what should be my posture for her to latch better since she is not sucking properly.it seems she has nipple confusion.should I stop bottle feed immediately and should feed her directly rather pumping and bottlefeed.

Hi,

Thanks for posting on HealthCareMagic.

Breast milk is the best food for a baby and is produced on the demand of the baby. With hunger, as the baby suckles more, more breast milk is produced.

The adequacy of breast milk would be expressed by the number of times urine is passed. At least 5-6 episodes of passing urine in 24 hours is to be considered adequate.

You can give supplemental feeds like nan pro or lactogen powder if you are not producing enough milk.

The baby should be at your lap covering his entire head and you should give her whole nipple in his mouth for sucking which will allow free flow of milk to the baby and also increase the production of milk.

There might be having inverted nipple from which baby might get reluctant to suckle.

Giving lactonic granules 1 sachet twice daily with a glass of milk to the mother should increase the amount of breast milk produced.

Giving medicines like reglan tablets for a few days may also help.

If baby is not taking milk from breast then you can give expressed milk.

Hope this will help.

Regards,
