Hello and welcome to HCM, The low hemoglobin commonly accompanies malignancies. I suggest you to take up iron study before taking iron preparations since excess of iron can be harmful to body. Low hemoglobin is not always due to iron deficiency in case of malignancy. Blood transfusion is done after screening the blood of the donor for blood group and various viruses. Thus, you can take up blood transfusion without worrying about any deleterious effect. Blood transfusion is monitored by the doctor so there is nothing to worry. Thus, please check your iron status before taking iron supplements. Blood transfusion can be taken safely if your doctor suggests you to do so.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
