Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Excessive sleep in day time can occur due to non refreshing sleep during night. You are sleeping for 3 hours in day time and then for 5 hours in night. Total 8 hours of sleep in 24 hours in not high but the timing of sleep is really alarming. This is the reason that you are having problems in sleeping at time in night. I'd advise you to improve
sleep hygiene to get proper refreshing sleep.
- First thing is to avoid day time naps. You are sleeping 3 hours in day time and this should be stopped immediately. If you cant avoid this then have a cup of black coffee to prevent the sleep in evening.
- Fix your time to go to bed. Don't remain active till late in night. Try to go to bed before 11 in night.
- Try not to think about not getting sleep again and again. Remain relaxed and if by any chance you fail to get sleep with in 15 minutes of going to bed then get up and try to divert your attention.
- Have warm water bath in evening and this will help in good sleep.
- Light exercise during evening will also help in sleep.
- Avoid using mobile, laptop from bed. Don't make bedroom as TV or study room. Use your bed for sleeping only.
Try to follow these steps and your sleep will improve. If problem persist even after that
consult a psychiatrist for help. Medicines like
Melatonin or
Ramelteon can help to correct the altered sleep rhythm and you will feel improvement. Visit a psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs.
Thanks, Hope this helps you.
Take care
