How To Get Rid Of The Scars Caused By Pimples?

Hello Dr,
Like every other person, I get pimples. But my pimples arent so big or more. It comes and goes lik it happens to othes. But the scars stays up for a long time unlike others.
My friend and I have pimples, for her, the scar will start to fade and it will be gone in a month, but for me, it takes minimum 2 months atleast to fade like 50%.
And most of it happens only in my forehead.
Kindly help me, this problem is bringing my confidence down so much.

Thank you for your time.

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

Acne and Post Acne Hyperpigmentation (PAH) is common among young people. Almost all cases of Acne and PAH can be ultimately cured with proper medication and follow up.

Post acne hyperpigmentation is common in people with inflammatory lesions(papules and pustules). In some persons it can persist for longer than others specially if it is more pronounced at the beginning

Oral Antibiotics: For inflammatory acne(papules and pustules) i advice my patients to start with one of the oral antibiotics like Azithromycin/ Doxycycline/ Minocycline.

Topical treatment: Is a valuable adjunct to any form of acne treatment.

1)Topical Antibacterials: Clindamycin 1%/ benzoyl peroxide 2.5% OR Nadifloxacin during the day time.

2)Topical Retinoids: Either Adapalene 0.1%/ Tretinoin 0.025% OR Azaleic acid (10%/20%) at bed time.

Topical treatment regimen especially the one which includes one of the retinoids that i mentioned above also helps to gradually fade away the black spots (post acne hyperpigmentation)(PAH)

Since, you mentioned that you have both acne as well as post acne hyperpigmentation from previous acne. In such a case i prefer to give Azaleic acid cream/gel. It acts both on acne as well as black spots. I ask my patients to apply Azaleic acid on the whole affected area twice daily and rub in gently for 2-5 minutes to enhance penetration.

hope this helps

Hello and welcome to HCM,

I read your query and understood your concern.

The appearance of pigmentation and scars after acne depends upon the skin type. And how you handle the pimples.

Scratching/ squeezing/ repeated touching can cause increased hyperpigmentation and scarring.

If the scars you have are dark marks, apply depigmenting agents like kojic acid over the spots, which will help in fading.
If the scars are depressed, like small craters, and of same colour as skin, apply 0.05% tretinoin over it , and it will slowly resolve.

Hope i helped
