How To Get Rid Of Diarrhea?

My wife has had diarrhea for 10 days. Took her to the ER XMAS night, they gave her some liquid potassium as the blood test revealed low potassium level, however, the ER doctor said they don t treat stomach virus/flu, they just let it run it course. It s been 10 days, and the illness continues. My wife is 74, her family doctor has prescribed dicyclomine, which is not recommended for people over 65, plus is can cause hallucinations which my wife has had several times. Is there any OTC medication she can take?

Thanks for your query
.
As your wife is diagnosed to hav viral diarrhea, the very first thing to look is fluid status.,if its ohk or she is not dehydrated and passing adequate urine then nothing to worry.
I would also like to add few things that viral diarrhea is not common in this age group people.,other causes should also be looked via stool test, blood tests.,and no drugs for viral diarrhea is available OTC. Dicyclomine is ohk if she is having cramps.
