Hi, i am 21 years old i used "RACCUTANE" for three months as suggested by a specialist for acne problem. But some one told me that it has side effects like delay in pregnancy etc. then i stopped using it. and acne came back. now m confused what to do? start it again or use another alternate medicine for acne?
Roacutane is Isotreinoin. For severe acne OR for acne unresponsive to traditional anti-acne medications, Isotretinoin is the drug of choice. It the only drug which offers any chance of long term cure and after a full course of isotretinoin significant number of people never have a recurrence of there acne. However it should always be taken in consultation with a dermatologist.
Isotretinoin should not be taken during pregnancy because it can cause fetal malformations. Doctors usually advice patients on isotretinoin to practice effective contraception. However, it does'nt delay pregnancy, rather one should delay getting pregnant while on isotretinoin.
Once stopped, it is eliminated from the body in about a month's time and thereafter pregnancy won't be affected.
I would suggest that you restart on isotretinoin since incomplete course carries a risk of relapse of acne (as has happened in your case).
regards
