How To Do Home Test For Protein For Donating Plasma?

Is there an in home test for protein for donating plasma ...finding out if it s high enough to donate(6.0 - 8.0) before going in to plasma center and testing on the low side (6.0 - 6.4), they will draw blood to test at a lab.. and with these low numbers the lab test (after a week off from donating) will come back with even lower numbers... forcing a month or more off.... battle between working out and donating...both take protein.... supplementing and eating higher protein foods helps.... would like to monitor my own to see the increase and peaks/ spike (if any) from shakes, bars, food etc... what makes a difference and when..... donating does pay for my protein powder and fuel for auto..$200 - $240 a month for about 7 hrs of time...also helps someone live a more normal life...did donate my O- blood every 56 days for nothing for 13 years.... thanks for your time...Tony

Hello there Tony,
Thank you for being a regular blood donor. It is a social service that is often not so well appreciated. From your description It seems you want to know how to maintain high enough protein plasma levels so that you can donate plasma frequently. You have to focus on three things-
1) fluids- atleast 3 litres of water a day. this is about 8 glasses.
2) Iron rich food like organ meats-liver, brain, sweetbread or greens like spinach should be a part of your diet.
3) If you workout and donate plasma then have atleast 1 gram/pound or 2 grams/kilo of protein per body weight. If you are say 180 pounds then atleast 180 grams of protein can be had. bear in mind this includes your dietary sources in addition to your supplements.

Regarding in house protein monitors unfortunately they do not occur at price ranges which would be feasible for you to have in house. So workout and have a good diet and you would be good to donate.

Hope this helps,
Please feel free to get back to me with any further queries.
And again thanks for being a donor.
