About three weeks ago I noticed white spots on my right tonsil, I was feverish and felt drained so I went to the doctor and he prescribed me Antibiotics. I finished the antibiotics a week later and noticed that my right tonsil was clear but the white has now shifted to my left tonsil with vengeance. I went back in and he took a culture informed me that he believes it is Herpes type 1 so he prescribed me Val-acyclovir. Another week passed and I still hadn t received the prescription until I heard back from my throat culture. The culture came back normal for any bacterial infections but now my throat is infested with white painful patches all over my tonsils and back of throat. I picked up the Val-acyclovir and still nothing. I am sicker than I was initially three weeks ago I have extreme fatigue all my muscles feel worn down, I am having neck and lower back pain, headaches and high fever not to mention my throat looks and feels like a war went on in there.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted your history and medications that you have taken including the Val-acyclovir. The development of white patches on the tonsils and pharynx is suggestive of a bacterial infection which has recurred and the culture report may not be of help as it was done in the past. I would advise you the following: To send the sample again for gram staining, culture and sensitivity. Tests of blood for CBC and sugar X-rays of the chest and the sinuses to see if there is a focus of infection. Appropriate broad spectrum antibiotics under the guidance of a Doctor. Consult an ENT Surgeon for proper clinical evaluation and examination, investigations and treatment.
