How To Cure Severe Shoulder Pain Radiating Towards Wrist?

Hi, I am a 37 year old mother and I recently had my baby in March 2013, c section and I remember after having her I had horrible shoulder pain and they said it was because of gas getting trapped, well it s been 19 months and I m still having this throbbing pain in my right upper shoulder joint area, and also the same pain in the upper right arm, almost feels like its inside my bone, it s a throbbing pain and sometimes the pain spreads to my wrist joint. It comes and goes but lately it s been happening more and more. I don t know what it could be, any ideas? Just some background info, I have hoshimotos disease /hypothyroidisn with current normal levels.

Thanks for your query.
The pain in the shoulder like you are having can be due to tendonitis- inflammation of the rotator cuff or due to a muscle sprain or a labral tear.
The exact diagnosis can be made only after an MRI scan of the shoulder.
In most of the cases conservative treatment helps in complete recovery. Local steroid injections nay be needed to decrease the inflammation.
Avoid doing any painful movements or exercises specially push ups.
Here are some general treatment measures which you can follow:

1) Provide complete rest and avoid overhead activities.
2) Apply cold compresses and take some anti inflammatory pain killer after consulting your doctor.
A physical therapy program that focuses on establishing non-painful shoulder motion and strengthening of the shoulder muscles will also be helpful. But the acute pain should subside before starting any physical therapy.
