How To Cure Pain, swelling And Discolouration Around Eye?

Hi. I fell last night and hit my head and bridge of nose. I now have 2 very black eyes. Not felt dizzy or sick or tiredness but the bump is swollen and tender. Used ice pack a couple of times now. No blurred vision but eye lid very swollen . I have a dull ache but think its mainly due to the big lump . How can I treat all of the above ?

Hi, I am Dr. Shreyash Mehta, I have am MD Community Medicine

I can answer your query

You said you fell last night and hit your head and bridge of the nose following which you are have black eye either side.

The skin around the eye is very loose, with mostly fat underneath it and fluid accumulates easily in this area. The skin around the eye is one of the first places to swell when the facial area is injured.

Depending on the location and type of injury, one or both eyes may be affected. Injuries to the eyebrow, nose, and forehead area often result in black eyes because gravity pulls the blood and inflammatory fluid into the soft tissues under and around the eyes.

For treatment:
1. Consult your physician and to rule out if there is any fracture or severe injury to your nose, however your description does not suggest so.

2. you used icepacks so this will decrease the swelling

3. clean the local wound at head and bridge of the nose so it will prevent the infection. Also keep the area around the eye clean.

4. Take combination Paracetamol-500 mg, Serratiopeptidase-15 mg
Aceclofenac-100 mg

5. take appropriate rest

As a black eye heals, the swelling around the eye decreases, and the bruise gradually fades away. The bruising will usually start out a very dark purple, and as it fades, it may change to light purple, then greenish, then yellow before disappearing.
