How To Cure Acute Tonsillitis Causing Swelling On Left Tonsil?

My left tonsil is swollen and I am taking a steroid and a antibiotic however the problem seems to still be there. I was diagnosed with acute tonsilitis however the last time I had the symptoms it was a viral infection and treated with sudogest which worked. What is going on? O when a take a generic form of sudafed it makes my throat feel better.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Acute tonsillitis can be bacterial or viral in most of the cases. One should take appropriate antibiotics
(quinolones or cephalosporins preferred)with other symptomatic treatment.
You are taking sudafed OTC decongestant which is good but which antibiotics are you taking you didn't mention.
Generally it takes 7 to 10 days to get rid off from this kind of infection.
One should avoid unwanted steroids despite they are powerful drugs because we have much better options available to cure.
Consult your ENT surgeon for further advise.
Thanks.
