How To Control High Fever With Cold And Cough In Child?

My 5 yr old son spiked a fever over 103 last night, I placed him in a tepid bath and gave him some ibuprofen to bring the fever down. He was given another dose at 5 am, as a precaution. When his morning dose wore off, the fever spiked again and he became lethargic til the next dose took effect. The temps run between 103 and 106 depending on where I place the themometer.(It is a temple read thermometer) He has a cough and a runny nose, but doesnt complain of any other aches or pains. Should I rush him to the hospital or continue to manage the fever with meds and fluids?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi.. if the child is having fever, cough and cold and is non responsive to routine medication and fluids I think the child should be started on antibiotic like amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. Also as the child is having high grade fever spikes ibuprofen or paracetamol should be given thrice a day along with supportive treatment for cough and cold.
