How To Avoid The Side Effects Of The Iron Pills?

My husband is taking iron pills and it seems to give him a consistent pain in his stomach, we tried with food in between meals even once a day and before he sleeps.... nothing seems to help he stop taking his pill and now his blood count is going down again it was 7.4, when taking the pills 14, now down to 10.0 what can we do?

I really appreciate your concern, iron preparation can cause the GI irritation, it is common symptoms noted and to come out of this it has to be taken with food, syrup from minimize the symptoms, so better to try iron syrup and try to change the dose timing, along with this PPI (Proton pump inhibitor can be used) like Omeprazole 40 mg once in day, hope this information helps.
