How Soon Can Bp Get Normal After C-section?
I am 3 weeks postpartum. I had pre eclampsia during pregnancy and had a emergency c section at 37 weeks due to having a siezure and bp bieng elevated. I am taking 400 mg of labetolol three times a day and my blood presure is still running in the high 140/90s to 150/100s. How long does it ususally take to blood pressure to go down after dielivery. My blood pressure was in the 120/80s prior to getting pregnant.

Preeclampsia is very common in pregnancy, and sometimes it is complicated by eclampsia, which is what you had. Usually the risk of eclampsia is almost zero after 24 hours from delivery. In some unusual cases, the risk can persist for weeks after the delivery. Patients, such as yourself, should pay attention to symptoms such as headaches, visual symptoms, abdominal pain, decreased urine output or just not feeling well. If you otherwise feel well, these blood pressures are not too concerning. In most patients, they can expect to be back to their normal state by 6 weeks postpartum. Given how complicated your delivery was, you definitely need to run this same question by your OB Provider as they may want to see you, assess for persistent symptoms of severe preeclampsia.

I think i have understood your concern.It usually takes 6 weeks postpartum to get all changes of pregnancy back to normal. you need to keep close watch on your blood pressure and need to adjust the dose of the medicine for it with the help of concerned physician. Try and maintain healthy life style with proper nutritious diet and postpartum exercises.
