Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. You are a diabetic and having constipation so you are taking flagyl (metronidazole) and sporlak (sporogens, that is lactic acid baciilus). Sporlak is normal for intestinal flora so there is no side effect and you can use these for very long time. While flagyl has many side effects if used for a long time. The best way is take flagyl for one month stop and restart after a gap of one month. But flagyl 400 mg + sporlak one tablet you can use for very long time.

Side effects of flagyl are: nausea, vomiting, metallic taste, furred tongue, glossitis and stomatitis (but you are also taking sporlak, so simultaneously it will heal), weakness, ataxia, headache, change in mental state and moods.

If used for long time these may develop EPILEPTIFORM SEIZURES. However there are so many other side effects, so I would like to say prolong use may be dangerous for health.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Good luck.

Regards,
Dr. Het Ram Bishnoi
