How Safe Is To Take Rocephin, Rifampin And Zithromax Together?

My father has pneumonia. He is 96 yrs old and recovering from hip surgery. His dr. Gave him 3 meds at one time Rocephin shot, Zithromax 500mg, and Rifampin 300 mg.He is not eating much and losing weight. Should I be concerned about his taking all these meds at one time? YYYY@YYYY

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.
Rocephin doesn't have any interaction with the other two. Rifampicin and Azithromycin have an interaction that Rifampicin decreases the blood level and action of Azithromycin.
The doctor would have prescribed these medicines together to cover a very serious infection and you should not change the medicines without his /her consent.
Take care
