How Safe Is To Take Duphaston During Pregnancy?

hi i am 11 weeks 5 days pregnant and I spot on every 4th or 5 th day. i was on Uterone 200 mg twice a day till today. Today doctor has prescribed me Duphaston 10 mg twice in a day. Is it safe to start Duphaston and discontinue Uterone? What are the probable causes of spotting? As per the ultrasound the baby is doing fine

Hi, I have gone through your question. Spotting in early pregnancy can be due to several causes:
1. bleeding around the fetus (subchorionic haemorrhage)
2. missed abortion
3. ectopic pregnancy
4. idiopathic ( no cause found)
Since your ultrasound is fine, first 3 causes are ruled out. Uterone and duphastone both are progesterone preparations which support the pregnancy by making uterine environment more favourable for the fetus.
It is given in patients with spotting in pregnancy.
It is safe to use either of the drug.
I would suggest you to follow your doctor's advice.
