How Safe Is Taking Tryptomer ?
the pt., 83 yr, F is prescribed Pramipex 0.75 mg O D at night by the neurologist about 2 wks ago. Earlier, she was on 0.125 mg OD. She wss also prescribed tryptomer, 25 mg OD and Pacitane, 2 mg BD,1/2 tab AM + 1/2 tab PM. She has become more dopey than before (Primipex 0.125 mg + Tryptomer 25 mg). Is this regimen OK?

Regarding Tryptomer, I would explain that this is an atidepressant, which is not well tolerated by patients of this age.
It may cause dry mouth, low blood pressure, orthostatic hypotension and urinary retention at these ages. Cardiac arrythmia can also occur as a possible adverse effect of this drug.
For this reason, I would not recommend taking it.
Instead, I would recommend taking a SSRI drug (sertraline, paroxetine, etc.)for the same purpose (depression or anxiety). These drugs are better tolerated at her age.
