Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 58 year old male; 6 ft. tall, 170 lbs. History of hypertension controlled by Norvasc. 5 days ago I underwent endoscopic nasal surgery under general anesthesia. This was done at an ambulatory surgical facility and I was released home the same day. Postop problems have been minimal. No major pain so I quit taking the Norco pain med after 24 hours. My problem is that my energy level is still very depleted and I am still sleeping through the night and much of the day. Can this still be a residual effect of the anesthesia?
I carefully passed through your question and would explain that your symptoms can be related to inflammation or anemia.
The effects of anesthetic drugs usually do not last so long.
So, If these problems persist, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician for a careful physical exam and some tests:
- a complete blood count for anemia - blood electrolytes for possible imbalance - PCR and ESR for inflammation or infection - an arterial blood gas analysis.
You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.
Hope you will find this answer helpful!
Wishing all the best,
Dr. Iliri
