How Often Can Cortisone Shots Be Taken In Shoulder And Knees?

Hi doc, I'm a humpty dumpty - multiple knee and replacement surgeries; multiple spinal surgeries; ulna nerve surgery a heart attack etc. I'm 64 years and still vertical but I fell from a ladder and after x-ray bursa and calcification in my left shoulder. C4-7 and T4-7 are herniated and have all the basic spinal problems; How often can i get cortisone shots in my shoulder and knees; they told me three months but the shots last only 3 to 4 weeks if I'm lucky. Have a go at it Doc.

Hello,
Thanks for your query.

The number of cortisone shots you can receive in one year generally is limited because of potential side effects from the medication. In general, cortisone injections should not be given more often than every six weeks and usually not more than three or four times a year.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
