How Long Will Brown Discharge Be There After Starting Birth Control Pill?

hello! I am a teenager and started taking birth control pills 3 weeks ago. I have dark brown discharge and lots of clumpy brown pieces inside my vagina. I looked it up and it says it is normal due to the hormonal changes. I just want to know how long it will last, and if there s any way I can help make it stop. Thank you!

Hi,
Thanks for sharing your health concern with us. It is often observed that when hormone contraception is initiated, the body takes time to adjust to the altered hormone milieu and as a result, there is an irregular menstrual pattern for a couple of cycles. You seem to be experiencing the same. However, please remember that the first couple of cycles need additional protection to prevent pregnancy. You can use styptics to arrest the spotting and if there is no relief, contact your health care provider. Hope this helps.
