How Long To Heal The Wound?

I cut my finger while sawing tree limbs now I have 3 deep cuts on my pinky finger across my knuckle . I stopped the bleeding and cleaned it out, then I put a couple butterfly band aids on it . Should I put a splint on it so that it doesn t split open and if so how long do I leave it on for?

Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

I would suggest that you clean the area either with soap water daily Or with a betadine dipped sterile gauze.
The idea is to prevent it from getting secondarily infected with bacteria. Betadine is antiseptic, antibacterial.
After cleaning, you may use an OTC topical antibacterial e.g 2% mupirocin ointment twice daily for a few days, till the wound/cuts heal. They normally should scab over and heal within a week
Howevr, in case you experience increased pain Or develop watery/purulent discharge Or the edges of the wound become red, swollen and painful Or the floor of the wound develops yellowish dirty slough; these are all signs that the wound has become infected with bacteria and would require a course of an oral antibiotic for effective control

Regards
