How Long Should I Take Dilaudid After Having Rotator Cuff Surgery?

My husband had rotator cuff surgery in early October and the doctor put him on Dilaudid 2mg (he had to have a kidney removed early January 2015 so is limited to the types of pain killers he can take). Supposedly he is down to 1/2 a pill 1, 2 or 3 times a day. He is talking about going cold turkey starting on January 1. Is that the best way to get off the Dilaudid? If not, what do you recommend?

I really appreciate your concern, "hydromorphen" is potent analgesic opioid group of drug and it is better to stop this drug if not indicated that much or better to discuss this with doctor for better management clinical condition is matter of concern hope this information helps.
