How Long Post Unprotected Sex Should HIV Test Be Continued?

Now my last exposure to unprotected sex was between 4 and 7 years ago. I was tested 3 years ago by my life insurance company using the Elisa system and was negative. I tested my self two months ago with the oralquick swab test and was negative, I also tested my self with the home access hiv-1 test system and was negative my wife also was tested last week with the 4 generation hiv test and was negative. Should I request a hiv test from my doctor? Because I had symptoms like lost of weight, digestive problems, a lot of fatigue and feel like all my bones hurt any advice will help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic Forum.
I have gone through your Query & I really appreciate your concern about the delicate problem you are facing.

As a physician I would like you to suggest that according to your symptoms what you have might not be a HIV infection. Sometimes the infection remains dormant for many years and resurfaces when your Immunity goes down. I suggest you should take tests again after 6 months of period.

Also to rule out HIV and other causes I suggest you should do other full blood workup including CD4 count, PCR Test to establish your pin-point diagnosis.

Thanks for Trusting & Posting your Query on this forum.
Hope this will help you. Feel free to ask any further question.
Have a nice Day.

Regards,
Dr.Abhijeet
