How Long Does Azithromycin Take To Treat Swollen Tonsils?

Hiya,
I have tonsillitis, no fever, no swollen lymph nodes, no earache.
just swollen tonsills with abscess on it.
have started azithromycin. just been 48 hours since the first dose
was wondering how long should i expect for the abscess to clear away,as it's very perturbing to see it there. i feel my symptoms are getting better, ie sore throat is improving. It's just the abscess that is really unsettling. Thanks dr!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain the active infection subsides within 48 hours of taking the antibiotic and the complete resolution may take from a week to ten days..
As you told that it is 48 hours since the first dose you need not to worry as you should continue to take Azithromycin 500 mg for the five more days for complete resolution..
Along with it do warm saline gargles, take throat lozenges, chew one vitamin c pellet daily..

Do not worry it will be resolved soon..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
