How Long Do Gabapentin Side Effects Take To Get Cured?
Hi I ve been taking 600 mg of gabapentin since May for degenerative disc disease. I wish I would have asked my doctor to start at the lowest dose and go up because now, after reading about the side effects I would really like to ask her to lower the dose and see what happens or the other drug that she mentioned and see if that one has less side effects. I get very dizzy and have mild, but frequent headaches from the gabapentin. So how long is it going to take to lower the dose to say 300 or 400 mg? I hope not too long.
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Dizziness & headache can be caused by gabapentin-however incidence not known . Gabapentin - to start with a single 300 mg dose on day 1, 600 mg on day 2 (divided twice daily), and 900 mg on day 3 (divided 3 times daily). Subsequently, to titrate the dose upward as needed for pain relief to a daily dose of 1800 mg (divided 3 times daily). To lower the dose medication gradually over minimum of 1 wk. Gabapentin is withdrawn gradually to avoid the possibility of increasing seizure frequency, as it is essentially an antiepileptic drug. Gabapentin can be used for neuralgic pain (as in your case).
