Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Long Can A Person Be Kept Under Medically Induced Coma?
Someone I know suffered cardiac failure during a medical procedure. I have no idea how much time elapsed before she was recussitated (spelling wrong) (that is the critical information right, the time lapse) but she made it to the hospital and was put into a medically induced coma. I've read quite a bit about why that's done (to alleviate swelling) but what I'm wondering is this. They first said they would take her out of the coma in 48 hours. Apparently they started to and then put her in again for another 48....... her CT scan is normal..... which I read may or may not mean anything...... Just wondering what your opinion is..... Thanks.
HI Well come to HCM If this was the cardiac arrest and because of this patient became unconsciousness then this is not the medically induced coma, bit this could be coma due to pathology in side the brain, let me clear something, patient can be induced anesthesia for any surgical and medical purpose, and this is not called coma, but this is unconsciousness medically controlled while come is purely used for cerebral pathology and this is disease condition, hope this information helps.
