How Long Can Osonase Spray,Junior Lanzol And Relent Be Taken?

Hello Doctor, My daughter is 2.9 years of age. She has mild eczema. She has been diagnosed with allergic rhinitis. She is on Singulair 4 mg, Osonase spray, Junior Lanzol (15mg) and Relent (5 ml) once a day. She is on this medication for more than a week. Her Rhinitis has been there for almost 2.5 months now. She is not showing any major improvement. Her IGe test showed 33 points. Is it safe to continue these medicines for more than a month? Please help!

Hello, thank you for posting your query here. Allergic rhinitis is a condition that with proper medication can be controlled and the child can have a good quality of life. My suggestions are the following:
1. switch from Relent to a plain cetrizine containing syrup, which can be safely given for 6 weeks for allergic rhinitis
2. I would advise against osonase spray as there are no guidelines for use in such a young child, first try the cetrizine for 6 weeks. Fluticasone nasal spray can be used in children more than 4 years of age
3. Singulair can be given safely. Give it in the evening time betweem 4 to 6 pm as it will be absorbed best at that time
4. Junior lanzol need not be continued unless she has pain in her upper abdomen.
5. Most important of all are to avoid triggers such as duuust, do wet mopping insted of sweeping, clean bedsheets in warm water once a week, wash curtains regularly, clean AC filters every fortnight, avoid use of agarbattis, perfumes, mosquito coils.
She should improve in the next few weeks.
Keep an allergy diary with her symptoms and show your doctor at the next visit so that he/she can change medications accordingly.
Hope this helps, and she feels better soon.
