How Invasive Is Surgery Of The Salivary Duct Under The Tongue?
I am scheduled to have surgery to remove a stone that is in a salivary duct under my tongue. I was wondering how invasive this surgery is, recovery time, and any possible side effects from this procedure. My ENT did tell me that I would be asleep for the entire procedure, is this really necessary?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...
As per your complain surgery to remove a salivary gland stone is not an invasive surgery in case if the stone is superficial and can be removed easily by putting an incision next to the stone location.. In case if the stone is located deep an endoscopic technique known as Sialoscopy is done to locate the stone with its exact position and removed surgically and in deeper stones the surgery in moderately extensive and recovery can take for atleast 3 to 4 weeks and even more.. It seems that you will be treated under general anaesthesia and you need not to worry as it will be more comfortable for you and even the surgeon, so there is nothing to be worried about it.
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
