Hi, I've been to the doctor and had a urine test to check for diabetes and it was negative. I'm having a fasting blood test too next week. How reliable is the urine test as an indicator to whether or not I've got it? Is it unlikey?
(having symptoms such as very thirsty espeacially at night). Thanks
I have gone through your query and I understand your concerns.
A person is diabetic when glucose level is above 110 mg/dl. But urine test can be positive only when glucose level is above 180 mg/dl, because this is renal threshold for glucose. The most exact test for diabetes mellitus is Glycated Hemoglobin test that is also known as HbA1c test.
HbA1c test will determine if you are diabetic or no.
I hope I answered your query.
All the best. Dr. Behar.
