How Effective Is Taking EMDR Treatment For Stress And Anxiety?

Hi, I am currently receiving EMDR treatment from an NHS psychologist for stress/anxiety. One of the problems I regularly have iscognitive processing- my brain literally locks up when doing tasks. The psycologist mentioned having a cortizone? test, which she states is a simple outpatient procedure. I have contacted my Drs (via letter) who are happy to refer me, but state that a test for cortizone is carried out as an inpatient procedure? Am i getting mixed up with cortisol tests? Phil

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

You have anxiety and stress and are on EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Processing) treatment. The problems of brain locking are resulting in difficulty in tasks. The therapist advised you to go for cortisone test. Basically the whole test includes measuring levels of Cortisol base line. If the levels come high then dexamethasone suppression test (DST) is advised. In DST individual is injected dose of dexamethason in night and suppression of cortisol concentration is checked in morning. Failure to suppress the levels of Cortisol after dexamethasone injection is common finding in depressed patients. As injection is given in night so they are advising you to go for inpatient procedure. There is nothing to worry, if you have been advised this test then you can go for it.

Thanks, hope this helps you.
