How Effective Is Isotretinoin For Erythematotelangiectatic Rosacea?
Here comes a question for a dermatologist. My mother has been prescribed Isotretinoin for her rosacea. Can it really help with the erythematotelangiectatic form of the disease? Only symptoms she has are burning sensation, itching and redness of the cheeks, ears, neck and chest. Thank you
Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcareMagic
Isotretinoin is mainly indicated for papulopustular rosacea and it is not so effective for erythemotelangiectatic rosacea. Erythemotelangiectatic type of rosacea is characterized by dilated capillaries i.e telangiectasias, which are visible as minute threads on close inspection. The best treatment for telangiectatic type of rocasea is by either 585nm Pulse dye Laser (PDL) Or Intense pulsed light (IPL ) treatment. The principle of these light based therapies is that the target chromophore for these wavelength of light is hemoglobin therefore the energy is absorbed by these dilated capillaries thus destroying them. I suggest you to visit a dermatologist or a laser specialist in your region for more details and the needful.
