Hello there, Diabetes is a chronic lifestyle disorder which may affect the kidneys, eyes, nerves and increase risk of heart diseases. Lisinopril is an anithypertensive medicine belonging to the group called ACE inhibitors. After extensive clinical research it has been found that in diabetic patients with some signs of renal damage this drug can be used to stop the progression or in some cases even does reverse the renal damage. Even in people with normal blood pressure. Your doctor may have asked you to do urine test which may have prompted the use of Lisinopril. In my clinical practice I use this drug in patients whose albumin in urine is reported to be high on 3 separate occasions (checked on 3 separate occasions especially in patients with normal blood pressure). Also Lisinopril has many cardioprotective effects. So discuss with your treating doctor. In my opinion Lisinopril will do you more good than harm unless if you get frequent low blood pressure.
