Hello, Thank you for your query. HUCOG is human chorionic gonadotropin (hcg) which is normally produced when the embryo implants in the uterus during a pregnancy. It is this hormone that is detected in a home pregnancy test. During a normal menstrual cycle, a few follicles (that contain egg) will develop, out of which only one will become Dominant and rupture. During this initial follicle development, estrogen is produced. Once enough estrogen is produced, it triggers another hormone called the luteinizing hormone (LH) which helps in the final maturation and helps with ovulation. Once ovulation has occurred the follicle that contained the released egg becomes the corpus luteum (CL) that produces progesterone. Progesterone is important to prepare uterus for implantation of the embryo (if the egg is fertilized by the sperm) and also to suppor the pregnancy. HCG has similar properties as the LH and stimulates the progesterone secretion as well. Hence it helps in the final maturation of the egg and induces ovulation and also gives support to the developing embryo when a pregnancy occurs. Hope this helps.
